As a child in the 70s, the excitement of Christmas was very much concentrated around the 24th and 25th December as we popped a mince pie and a glass of sherry by the fireplace, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa to fill our stockings with a tangerine, chocolate coins and perhaps a novelty or two.
