After a hugely successful Harrogate Christmas & Gift Fair in January, companies are biting the bullet and securing their 2014 exhibition space early for what is becoming one the UK's fastest growing trade shows in the sector.
Simon Anslow, show organiser, comments: "Despite the challenging economic climate, Harrogate Christmas & Gift has continued to defy all odds with a steady increase in visitor numbers over the last three years and notably from garden centre and tourist attraction sectors. Whilst there is a number of gift related trade shows in the UK throughout the year, none target this specific audience quite as effectively.
Chris Krall of IEP Wholesale, which stocks products from artificial flowers and vases to wall art and home décor products, said: "Whilst we don't actually have Christmas products, pound for pound Harrogate Christmas & Gift is one of our best shows and is perfect timing for buyers planning for Mother's Day. The calibre of visitor is extremely high and we get to meet more garden centre buyers here than any other trade show."
Previous exhibitors have just until Friday 10th May to secure their same stand space from last year, or request an alternative location. After this date, bookings will be open to companies.

The doors to the 64th Harrogate Christmas & Gift closed last week, having paved the way for a fabulous start to 2013 for exhibitors and visitors alike with full order books and exciting new stock lines for the coming year.
Despite severe weather warnings (which fortunately didn't reach fruition until after the event), buyers confirmed that Christmas & Gift is too important to be missed regardless of weather.
John King of Krebs Glas Lausha said: "We had a very steady flow of visitors to the stand across the four days and a healthy increase in business on the previous year. The show was particularly busy on Sunday and we thought this was because buyers may have chosen to travel earlier with the prediction of bad weather. Thinking this would tail off we were pleasantly surprised when they just kept coming. This indicates that despite the weather, the Harrogate Christmas and Gift is still considered important to attend to get an early feel for the brand new product and colour trends."
A delighted John Strode, managing director of Artificial Images, confirmed this saying: "On Sunday we had trebled our figures compared to 2012 and on Monday had quadrupled them. We have some very solid enquiries from a number of major accounts and are delighted with our location in hall D'."
As well as all of the big brands which return to the show year after year such as Festive Productions, Gisella Graham, Hill Interiors and of course Premier Decorations, which filled Hall H in its entirety for the second year running; Christmas & Gift welcomed a number of newcomers to the show and all reported an excellent first time experience.
Kym Yorke, creative director of Christmas at Crumble Cottage said: "Our product range has been incredibly well received and in just a short space of time we have already taken lots of orders. We really enjoyed our first time at Harrogate Christmas & Gift and found the atmosphere very warm and welcoming - it's a really friendly show."
Simon Anslow, show organiser for Harrogate Christmas & Gift for the third year, comments: "Once again, Harrogate Christmas & Gift 2013 has exceeded all expectations and the show is definitely on the map as the UK's largest dedicated Christmas trade event. The diversity of new exhibitor ranges and product lines, which cover pretty much every occasion throughout the year as well as numerous house ware and gift lines, makes it the first port of call of the year for gift buyers from almost every sector. "
Visitors to Harrogate Christmas & Gift arrived in a flurry of snow this morning. However, this cold snap certainly isn't affecting footfall and the halls of the Harrogate International centre continue to bustle with business activity and order books are filling fast.
In fact for one company, the order books are so full it now has enough work to keep busy for almost an entire year. Mike Baillon of Celtic Wood Crafts which has a range of unique hand-crafted wooden reindeer explains:
"As a new start-up company, this is our first trade show and we have been overwhelmed by visitors' response to our products. We currently have capacity to produce around 3,500 pieces a year and have already taken orders for 2,700."
However, buyers appear to not only be looking for Christmas ranges, but gift items to fill their shelves the entire year round. Gill Hare of Zig Zag Cards and Gifts of Knaresborough commented: "Harrogate Christmas & Gift is ideal for us as it is not only nearby but gives us the opportunity to see new product launches whilst Christmas is still fresh in our minds. As well as buying, we collect exhibitor catalogues so that we can plan our purchases for the whole year."
This fact was also confirmed by Chris Krall of IEP Wholesale which stocks products from artificial flowers and vases to wall art and home décor products. "Whilst we don't actually have Christmas products, pound for pound Harrogate Christmas & Gift is one of our best shows and is perfect timing for buyers planning for Mother's Day. The calibre of visitor is extremely high and we get to meet more garden centre buyers here than any other trade show."
With the winners of the Garden Trade News Greatest Christmas Awards announced during an evening of entertainment and celebration at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate last night, garden centre buyers have certainly arrived at the show on masse today. The forecast for snow has thankfully not materialised today and has certainly not perturbed visitors to Christmas & Gift Fair, which have literally flocked through the halls of the Harrogate International Centre. In fact, visitor numbers midway through the first day are already significantly up on the final first day figures for last year - leading the organisers to predict yet another increase in overall visitor numbers for the third year running.
As well as the well-known, regular brands at the show such as Premier, Festive and Salco, there is a number of first time exhibitors with some exciting new products ranges which buyers appear to be snapping up.
Ambiente is a Dutch manufacturer with an attractive range of printed paper napkins and matching accessories. Richard Weitzkorn of the company comments: "This is the first time that we have exhibited at Christmas & Gift and we are delighted with the quality and amount of leads that we have already made - especially being Sunday. We have also found the show incredibly friendly."
Another new name to the show is Christmas at Crumble Cottage - a charming little book full of nostalgic illustrations and quaint humorous stories giving a glimpse of Christmases past. Kym Yorke, creative Director of the company said: "Our product range has been incredibly well received and in just a short space of time we have already taken lots of orders. We are really enjoying our first time at Harrogate Christmas & Gift and find the atmosphere very warm and welcoming - it's a really friendly show."
If you missed the show today, there are still three more days to go so if you are looking for some unique new product ranges be sure to come along. Opening times are 9.00am to 6.00pm Monday and Tuesday and 9.00am to 4.00pm on Wednesday.
Are you already missing mince pies, mistletoe and mulled wine? Then the great news is you can have it all over again at Harrogate Christmas & Gift which takes this coming Sunday 13th to Wednesday 16th January 2013.
The halls of the Harrogate International Centre will be brimming with Christmas trees, decorations, novelties, gifts, furniture and everyday living ranges for the home and garden, in fact every conceivable product to ensure a successful 2013 festive season.

Retailers seeking versatile, low energy Christmas tree lights are advised to take a look at the latest in a long list of product advancements from the National Tree Company which will be exhibiting at Harrogate Christmas & Gift. The company's Dual-Color Low Voltage LED Lights system incorporates one of the most advanced lighting systems available on the market. The bulb colour on the pre-lit trees can be changed from soft white to multi-colour and back again with the tap of a foot switch - however, this is not a tree with two sets of light strings, but a single string with colour-changing bulbs.
The Low-voltage LED bulbs are energy-efficient, each 100-bulb string uses approximately 1.15 watts of power compared to the 44 watts of conventional lights sets. They are also long lasting, up to 25,000 hours of service compared to about 3000 hours from incandescent bulbs. Plus, because of the low energy consumption, low-voltage LEDs are cool to the touch and pose no risk of shock or fire. Visit the National Tree Company on stand D09.
Whilst many of you opened the first door of your Advent calendar yesterday, the first day of Advent is actually today, Sunday 2nd December and the Sunday closest to St Andrew's Day. This date marks the start of the church year and it also marks the start of the Christmas season for many people in the United Kingdom.
The origins of the Advent calendar come from German Lutherans who, at the beginning of the 19th century would count down the first 24 days of December physically - often by simply drawing a chalk line on the door each day.
The first known Advent calendar was handmade in 1851 according to the Lower Austrian Landesmuseum, the first printed Advent calendar was produced in Hamburg in 1902 or 1903.
If you are looking for some great new Advent calendar ideas at Harrogate Christmas & Gift Fair 2013, don't miss Fair to Trade Ltd on Stand C04 and Riffelmacher & Weinberger GmbH on Stand A03.

However, retailers in the Christmas sector will be pleased to know that around two thirds of all British families still opt for artificial and consumers will soon be flocking into stores to choose the specimen which will adorn their room this Christmas.
